| We had a bit of a potter round Santa Fe but
somehow it failed to grab us (although we did
find a chain restaurant that could do vegan food
& a margharita, so it wasn't all bad). |

Even the multistory carparks are done pink
adobe-style. If you really have more money than
you know what to do with, this is the place for
you - it makes the expensive tat shops on Little
Trendy Street in Oxford look like Oxfam. |
| We ended up spending all afternoon at
Bandelier National Monument. Prehistoric cliff
houses you could wander round! A reconstructed
kiva up in the cliff you could climb into!
Iced-over streams in the woods on the canyon
floor! |

|

|
And an open fire in the visitor centre - pity
it was shutting when we got back. Bummer dude. |
| The cliff houses caught the afternoon sun, so
they were pretty warm - you could just sit in the
rooms and bask. |

The drive out took us through Los Alamos. Not
surprisingly it reminded us oddly of Abingdon -
the indefinable "techie city" style of
architecture, |
| the well-kept and orderly air, the local
roads sponsored by a) the Ecology Party b) a
local Wiccan group |

|

|
And look! We found an alien face in the rock
at Bandolier. |

You can see (above) how high up above the
canyon floor the kiva was. |
