Nevada is absolutely brilliant - full of bugger-all but desert, enormous military bases (Area 51), old (ooh maybe 100 years & more) mining towns with (if you're lucky) enormous hotels or theatres from the boom days,
ghost towns that used to be the size of Boulder, junction towns that managed to get on the map but closed down by the time you get there, whereas new towns (gas station, brothel, couple of other trailers) are springing up at the next junction.

In Tonopah you can still see huts made out of flattened tin cans - like Scotland where people just build a new house next to the old.

We stayed in the Mizpah. Down the road in Goldfield the hotel - just the same really - stays closed.
