New Dog Shopping List

So you're going to get a new greyhound? Congratulations! But what will you need to get before your new dog comes home? Here is a "shopping list" to give you a few ideas...

Food and water bowls (metal are easier to keep clean and harder to break)
Greyhound collar and lead (6' webbing or leather is ideal)
Indoor Collar (new greyhounds are curious and quite capable of sneaking past your knees to have a look at the street they now live in!) with Engraved tag (put this on the indoor collar - then you have the security of knowing your dog has id if someone leaves the garden gate open by mistake). The "barrel" type quickly come unscrewed and the plastic ones are easily torn off.
Food - a good-quality dry food is a good "starter"
Bed - this just has to be soft and somewhere the dog can be undisturbed. It can be a folded-over duvet.... a bean-bag (doggie or otherwise)... a big soft pile of blankets....
Coat(s) for wet and cold weather (you can buy these from suppliers or make them yourself - Greyhound Manor Crafts have a pattern)
Toothbrush (an ordinary human one is fine - I swear by the electric ones!) and Toothpaste (has to be DOG toothpaste, not human)
TOUGH nail clippers
Rubber grooming brush
Greyhound book
flea and worm treatment (from your vet)
shampoo

Ask your local group if you don't know where to find any of these - the Greyhound Trust also does mail order (see The Main Greyhound Trust website and click on "shopping".
